Essential Travel Guides & Tips

  • The official currency of South Korea is the Korean Won (KRW). You can get cash via money exchange or withdrawal from an ATM. The easiest way is to withdraw cash via ATM. You can get it done upon arriving at the Incheon International Airport.
  • Use your T-money card while getting around Seoul. It works perfectly on the subway and buses. You can get this from the airport or from convenience stores!
  • Make sure to wear comfy shoes.
  • Downloads Kakaomaps or Navermaps for easy navigation.
  • When applying for a South Korean tourist visa, make sure you apply for it 2-3 months prior to your flight. Here’s the ultimate guide on how to apply for a South Korean tourist visa for the first time!

Getting around Seoul, South Korea

Based on experience, I would have to say that Seoul is one of the easiest cities in Asia to explore thanks to its efficient and affordable public transportation system. Here’s a quick guide to the best ways to get around the city:

Via subway

This is the fastest and most convenient way to travel between major attractions. It has multiple lines connecting almost every district, and English signs and announcements make it easy for tourists to navigate. Fares are affordable, and trains run frequently, making the subway the top choice for both locals and travelers.

Via bus

If your destination isn’t directly connected by subway, the bus system in Seoul is a great alternative. Buses are color-coded (blue, green, red, and yellow), each serving different routes such as local neighborhoods, cross-town areas, or intercity lines. They are also T-money compatible, so you don’t need to buy separate tickets.

During my 3rd visit to Seoul, this honestly became my favorite public transportation while getting around Seoul!

Via taxi / Kakao taxi

Taxis in Seoul are widely available and reasonably priced compared to many other capital cities. They’re ideal for short trips, late-night rides after the subway closes, or when carrying heavy shopping bags.

Get a T-Money Card

To make traveling seamless, purchase a T-money card. This rechargeable transportation card works on subways, buses, and even some taxis. Simply tap in and out when riding public transport, and recharge at convenience stores or subway stations. It saves time, money, and the hassle of buying single-journey tickets.

How to Get from Incheon Airport to Seoul?

Most international travelers arrive at Incheon International Airport (ICN), located about 50 km from central Seoul. With that, here’s how you can get from the Incheon International Airport to Seoul City.

  • AREX Express Train: The fastest way to reach Seoul Station in just 43 minutes. The train runs frequently, is comfortable, and is perfect if you’re staying near central Seoul.
  • AREX All-Stop Train: A cheaper option that stops at multiple stations along the way. It’s slower but convenient if your accommodation is closer to one of the smaller stops.
  • Airport Limousine Bus: A comfortable choice with wide seats and storage for luggage. Buses connect directly to popular districts like Myeongdong, Gangnam, and Hongdae. This is the best option when you arrive in South Korea past midnight, as trains only operate until midnight.
  • Taxi or Private Transfer: Best if you have heavy luggage or arrive late at night. Expect higher fares, but it’s a door-to-door option.

Where to Stay in Seoul?

For budget-conscious travelers who want comfort and convenience, Able Guesthouse Seoul is an excellent choice. Located in the vibrant Hongdae district, this guesthouse offers easy access to shopping streets, trendy cafés, nightlife spots, and the Hongik University subway station.

I personally love the vibe of this female dorm hostel. It has clean rooms, friendly staff, and a welcoming atmosphere. This hostel is definitely ideal for solo female travelers (like me). It has free Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and luggage storage are also available, ensuring a hassle-free stay.

My personal favorite would be its location, near the airport subway line, with a direct transfer from and to the airport!

You can book through Agoda, and use the code “ARAGODA” to get up to 8% discount!

Frequently Asked Questions

jeongdong observatory seoul

Is 8 days enough in Seoul?

Yes! 8 days is definitely enough to explore major attractions, shop, and enjoy a mix of modern and traditional Seoul without rushing.

What’s the best time for this Seoul itinerary?

Spring (April-May) and Autumn (September-October) are the most popular seasons for pleasant weather and stunning scenery.

Do I need a T-money card?

Yes, it’s the easiest way to pay for buses, subways, and some taxis.

Is Seoul expensive for tourists?

Seoul can be as affordable or as expensive as you make it. Street food and guesthouses keep costs low, while fine dining and luxury hotels can push your budget higher.

Do I need to book DMZ tours in advance?

Yes, if you’re planning to join a DMZ Tour, it’s best to book in advance as spots are limited and tours often sell out, especially during peak season.

South Korea is indeed one of the most beautiful countries in Asia that I’ve visited. I may sound a little biased here, but I really enjoyed my stay here! To be honest, I stayed here for about 20 days (where I visited Jeju Island, too!) during my first visit, and I got so lucky that it was during the autumn season (my favorite).

I hope this 8-day Seoul itinerary helps! If you have any more questions, you can leave your questions, and I’d be happy to help!
