Northern Vietnam has always had a special place in my heart. I always find myself coming back to this country. During my first visit, I stayed for 21 days in Hanoi (which was part of my Indochina backpacking trip) to do some volunteer work for students, and now I can’t believe that it has already been my third visit to Northern Vietnam as of this writing!
I’ve always loved Vietnam—the people, affordable food, and cost of living, breathtaking views of the mountain, and its simple life vibe that it has. I’ve already explored some of the most beautiful places in Northern Vietnam, such as Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Sapa, and Cat Ba Island. But this time around, I have visited another underrated destination in Northern Vietnam (which is, I believe, especially for most Filipino travelers), Ha Giang.
Therefore, if you’re looking for an adventure that combines rugged mountain roads, local village life, and breathtaking views, then the Ha Giang Loop in Northern Vietnam is one of the best experiences you can have. In this Ha Giang Loop travel guide, I am going to share with you my personal experience of my 3-day Hagiang Loop adventure—with some essential travel guides and tips, how to get there, and everything in between!

What Is the Ha Giang Loop?

The Ha Giang Loop Map, courtesy of Lila Inn Tours, shows the main route and scenic stops along the journey.
Ha Giang is located in the northernmost part of Vietnam, in Ha Giang Province. This region is often called the Last Frontier because it borders China and remains relatively untouched by mass tourism.
The Ha Giang Loop is a 300-kilometer motorbike route that winds through majestic limestone peaks, terraced rice fields, and ethnic minority villages, which is truly one of the most scenic rides in Southeast Asia! I’d say that this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you must try!
In my case, I did a 3-day Ha Giang Loop adventure with Lila Inn Tours!
How to Get from Hanoi to Ha Giang
If you’re wondering how to get from Hanoi to Ha Giang, the best way to get there is by sleeper bus. The trip takes around six hours and is the most convenient and affordable option for travelers.
In my experience, I booked my VIP sleeper bus through GetYourGuide, and the process was so smooth! The platform provided clear details about departure points, schedules, and transfers.
The VIP sleeper bus was spacious, with reclining seats, plugs for your gadgets, and even free bottled water. Just take note that you’ll need to remove your shoes before boarding. This is a common custom to keep the bus clean!
Then, after arriving in Ha Giang City, I checked in at Lila Inn, where I also booked my 3-day Ha Giang Loop Tour. The 3-day package tour includes accommodation, meals, and my local guide (known as an Easy Rider), which made the entire experience stress-free and enjoyable.
Where to book the Ha Giang Loop Tour?
There are a lot of travel agencies offering Ha Giang Loop Tours, but I would highly recommend Lila Inn Tours. They offer 2-day tour, 3-day tour, 4-day tour, 5-day tour, and 7-day Ha Giang Loop tours with a small group under 10 or private at no extra cost!
Also, they have professional Easy Riders with over 5 years of experience, so you’ll be in safe hands! Another thing is that you can have a customized tour depending on your preference and pacing while visiting and exploring some less beaten paths in Ha Giang! They can arrange your tours, accommodations, and everything!
In my case, I did the 3-day Ha Giang Loop adventure with an Easy Rider and was able to visit some of the best spots in Ha Giang! My tour was arranged very well, from the very first day up to the last day of my trip.
