ALT="hongkong sky terrace view with a travel guide"

WELCOME TO MY HONG KONG TRAVEL GUIDE! Hong Kong is one of the famous tourist destinations for Filipinos. The fact that it is near the Philippines, the cost of living is not as costly as other countries, and it is a visa-free country. No wonder Hong Kong has been one of the famous out-of-the-country trips for first-timers traveling abroad. Well even me, Hong Kong was my first ever international trip! Why not? Hongkong is such a great place to visit! In addition, it is close to Macau so it is possible to visit it as well. Therefore, I am going to share with you my travel guide to Hong Kong and Macau for 6 days and 5 nights!

ALT="hongkong macau travel guide with budget itinerary"

This is actually my second time visiting Hongkong. The first time I visited here was in 2016 and it was a family trip. So this time, I traveled together with my friends and made sure that our stay would be longer than my trip before.

So here is my sample Hongkong and Macau travel guide if you are a first-time traveler!

Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Hong Kong International Airport

Checked into our hostel in Kowloon

Don’t forget to purchase your Octopus card because it will help you a lot save money and time during the whole trip. We took pictures for a while and then headed to our hostel.

Don’t exchange all your peso at the airport. The best place to change it in Worldwide Plaza which is located in Central.

Funny part: We got lost while we were on our way to the hostel.

Day 2

Hong Kong Disneyland

We spent the entire day at Disneyland. It was my second time there but that place didn’t fail to amaze me for the second time around. I even got more excited while entering the happiest place in the world!!! I was so happy to back with my friends and finally had shared some memories with them.

The first thing that we did was, we watched The Lion King and my memories as a child went back again because of this show. It was a total bliss watching my childhood movie! It even got me teary-eyed! The show was really amazing!!! Indeed!!!

However, as we went out of the theater, it rained hard, and had to find a place for us not to get soaked. We went to a restaurant near Tomorrow Land and had our lunch there. It was too much hassle for us since we didn’t have any umbrellas with us, so we kept running from one to another place.

We took a picture with Goofy and took the long queue to take pictures with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. After that, we took the train and went off after reaching Fantasyland. Then, we took pictures, roamed around and entered Mystic Manor. Right after that, we watched the parade.

The next thing we did was, we went sightseeing around Fantasyland, Tomorrow Land, and Main Street USA. We went back home around 7 PM because we were already exhausted and couldn’t wait for the fireworks anymore.

Tip: Make sure to be there early so that you’ll be able to tour the entire place! But I’m telling you, it isn’t that easy! It is going to be totally exhausting.

DAY 3

World Wide Plaza

This is where we exchange our peso to Hong Kong dollars. The foreign money exchange is located on the second floor of the building. It is very cheap here!

Sheung Wan Center

This is where we redeemed our voucher for Cotaijet Ferry tickets going to Macau.

Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal

Note: There is no need for you to exchange your Hongkong dollars to Macanese Pataca (Macau currency). It is possible to use HKD in Macau.

Taipa Ferry Terminal

From here, we took the free shuttle going to The Venetian Hotel.

The Venetian

There’s a connection linkway that will bring you directly to The Parisian Macao. You can just walk inside the Venetian Hotel going to The Parisian Hotel.

The Parisian

We roamed around inside the hotel and tried to look for the Eiffel Tower.

From here, we went back to The Venetian and took a shuttle bus going to the Galaxy Hotel.

The Galaxy Hotel

From the Galaxy Hotel, we took the shuttle bus going to the Star World Hotel.

The Star World Hotel

From here, we walked and headed to the Grand Lisboa Hotel.

Grand Lisboa Hotel

Then we took the free shuttle bus going back to Taipa Ferry Terminal in front of the Grand Lisboa Hotel.

Back to Hong Kong

Unfortunately, we only had limited time because we left in Hong Kong around 12:40 pm and had to go back around 8:30 PM. They couldn’t give us an earlier schedule because it was a holiday, so mostly the schedules were fully booked. Despite that, we had a lot of fun. We didn’t even spend much money during our trip to Macau.

Day 4

The Peak Tram

We have booked our Peak Tram and Sky Terrace activities from KLOOK! Sadly, we were late for our eleven o’clock schedule so we just got our tickets and had to fall in line for the tram.

SO PLEASE. DO NOT BE LATE FOR YOUR SCHEDULE IF YOU HAVE ANY. But, I think everything really happens for a reason. If we weren’t late, we wouldn’t have met one of the most popular comedians in Korea! So still, something good happened to us that day! Yes!!!

Sky Terrace (The highest 360° viewing terrace in HK)

Sky 100 Observation Deck

Mongkok (Ladies Market)

From here, you can buy cheap pasalubongs or souvenirs for your families, friends, or loved ones. The best time to shop here is at night. Just be aware of the vendors because when you ask, they will usually force you to buy their products.

Day 5

Plaza Hollywood

We roamed inside the mall before we headed to Nan Lian Garden. This is also where we had our lunch.

Nan Lian Garden

Personally, I got pretty amazed because the garden seemed to be built in the middle of the road in Kowloon.

Tsim Tsa Tsui

This is definitely one of my most favorite spots in Hong Kong! There are a lot of things to see here for free! Just walk around and you can witness lots of Insta-worthy spots along the area!

Victoria Harbour

ALT="hongkong city is one of the most beautiful places to visit"

This is one of the locals’ and tourists’ favorite gathering places.
At night, you can watch the popular laser showA Symphony of Lights” for free.

Harbour Clock Tower

The Harbour Clock Tower is 44 meters tall which was built in 1915. It is very historic because it symbolizes the Colonial Times of Hong Kong. More to that, it was named as Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) Clock Tower.

Hong Kong Cultural Centre

This is one of the Insta-worthy spots in Hong Kong! Located on the waterfront of Victoria Harbour, it is a place for performing arts, concerts, musicals, play and more.

Mongkok (Ladies Market)

Aside from cheap souvenirs, you can also buy some food that is very affordable!

Day 6

Back to Manila

(Arrived at the airport around 6:00 AM because our flight to Manila was at 10:40 AM.)

Tips & Reminders

Things we did before and during our trip:

1. Booked our all activities from KLOOK.

2. We only rode a taxi once during our first night in Hong Kong because we got lost on the way to our hostel. But most of our trips, we only took either MTR or buses.

3. We brought some snacks and drinks during our trip and walked a lot.

4. We took all the free shuttle buses in Macau and never took a taxi.

5. Always ask the locals or whoever can ask along the street. Just be aware because some of them do not really know how to speak English.

6. Months before our trip, I made our itinerary and wrote down the places that we must visit. I was able to write a lot for our travel guide to Hong Kong, but we didn’t really follow the plan. We didn’t want to exhaust ourselves that much. So we just went with the flow and enjoyed the entire trip.

Therefore,  there are still many reasons to go back to Hong Kong and Macau!

Have you been to Hongkong and Macau? What places would you recommend to visit? I hope this Hong Kong travel guide helps you a lot!
